Coweta County has a site for its new judicial center.

County commissioners approved late Tuesday the purchase of the Newnan Plaza shopping center on Greenville Street. The county is paying $3,8. million for the land and will probably start demolishing the property next year.

The nearly $30 million judicial center will be funded by special purpose local option sales tax funds that Coweta voters approved in September.

Jack Halpern of Halpern Enterprises in Atlanta is selling the property to the county.

The County Commission also approved another property purchase to help preserve some of the county's greenspace.

Brown's Mill Battlefield on Old Corinth Road and Millard Farmer Road was purchased for $480,000 by the county.

This 120-acre purchase is funded with state Greenspace funds and a $100,000 DNR grant.

The property is being purchased from INland Paperboard and Packaging, Inc. of Cedartown.

Both sales are expected to be completed by year end.
