Kwanzaa celebration set for NAACP meeting Sat.

The December meeting of the Fayette Count NAACP will include a Kwanzaa presentation.

Kwanzaa is a Swahili term meaning "first fruits," and the celebration was created by Maulana Ron Karenga. First introduced in 1966, it begins Dec. 26 and ends Jan. 1.

Prior to the celebration, NAACP members will conduct business and plan for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in January.

The group will meet at the Flat Rock AME Church Saturday at 4 p.m. The church is at 148 Old Chapel Road just off Ga. Highway 54 west. Refreshments will be served in the church annex.
