The seven children of John and Lillian Frances Rodgers Wallace wanted the world to know of their pride in their parents and invited friends and relatives at their 60th anniversary party at Sandy Creek Baptist Church recently. The family has been part of the church's membership since 1955.

The Wallaces were married Oct. 11, 1941 in East Point. A year later, John was called to serve in World War II, where he fought in the 7th Armored Division field artillery under Gen. George Patton. He later worked for Delta Air Lines.

Always active in church work, John led the singing for many years, and at the anniversary celebration he sang a song he wrote for his bride, entitled "The Ring."

Lillian taught Sunday school for many years, was a director of the Women's Methodist Union, served as president of the Sandy Creek Homemakers Club and was fair chairman for the club.

In between serving her community, she reared seven children. The couple now enjoys 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

"I think people need to know that marriage can last if you really want it to," said daughter Melody Mindler. "I know that my parents wouldn't tell you that it was an easy road to travel, but I think that they would tell you they have been blessed for their efforts and commitment."
