Carolyn Stanton, leisure programs manager for the Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department was recently honored as the "Distinguished Programmer's Section Professional" at the annual Georgia Recreation and Park Association conference.

Stanton has served on several committees, including one that is revamping a leadership program offered by GRPA. She also organized workshops on programming day camps and "beyond the basics".

Under Stanton's direction, the department offers a variety of programs for citizens of all ages, including martial arts, dance, exercise and arts classes.

Stanton said she was caught by surprise when she was announced as the award winner; she was not aware she had been nominated.

She also lavished the praise on her co-workers at the department.

"They judge you on the commitment to a variety of programs and the quality of programs you supervise," Stanton said.
