Tree sales benefit community groups

Once again you can support your community as you purchase your Christmas tree this holiday season.

Continuing a long tradition, the Fayette County Civitan Club is selling fresh Frasier fir trees in front of Melear's Barbecue Restaurant. The trees are delivered direct from Deep Gap, N.C.

Profits from the sale goes to support charitable organizations in the community, among them The Joseph Sams School (for developmentally disabled), Fayette Samaritans, Group Home, Southwest Christian Hospice, Special Olympics, Fayette Youth Protection Home, and Camp Big Heart (summer camp for developmentally disabled).

The tree lot is manned all day Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m. Sundays, and 4 - 6 p.m. weekdays. Melear's Barbecue is on Ga. Highway 85 south of the old Fayette County Courthouse.

The Fayette County Civitan Club is a service club that is affiliated with Civitan International. Civitans around the world concentrate on projects that benefit the develomentally disabled. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Civitan International Research Center they support is recognized as a premier research facillity.
