Cities get ready to usher in the holidays By JOHN
THOMPSON
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in South Fulton. Last week, Santa Claus arrived at Shannon mall in Union City to the delight of children young and old. On Monday, Fairburn kicks off the season with their annual tree lighting at 7 p.m. outside the railroad depot. Because of the festivities, the Fairburn City Council has cancelled its meeting and invites everyone to join in the singing of Christmas carols, said city administrator Tony Cox. Senior citizens can enjoy the start of the December holiday season withtree-lighting ceremonies at Fulton County's senior facilities. The events culminate the wholesome atmosphere that has proven popular with hundreds of senior citizens who come year' round to participate in programs that help them remain physically, mentally and socially independent as they continue to age. On December 5,at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility, 677 Fairburn Road, NW, Atlanta, the tree will be lit in a ceremony from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The facility will also hold its third anniversary ball on December 14, from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Call 404-699-8580 for more information.
