Residents voice their opinions about MARTA

Last week's meeting with MARTA officials gave Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards an overview of the community's feelings toward the transportation agency.

The meeting was held at the South Service Center on Stonewall tell Avenue in College Park, and Edwards said a lot of the people wanted answers from MARTA.

"One of the biggest issues was accessibility. A lot of the senior citizens said the bust stops were too high and the bus shelters needed to be bigger," he said.

The residents also issued complaints on the busses not running on time and other quality of life issues, such as the overall cleanliness of the vehicles and the lack of courtesy by the drivers, Edwards added.

Edwards plans to get answers from MARTA on many of the resident's concerns, but said one person's comments really hit home.

"He said they're worried about building more train routes and big projects, but they can't even do the little things right. That really made me think," he said.

The meeting was part of Edward's program to bring the issues home to South Fulton residents so they can feel more in touch with the government.
