Thrifth shop bolsters charities

The Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop recently announced grants totaling $8,000 to several charities in Fayette and Coweta counties.

Funds were awarded to the Bedford School to purchase sports equipment. A private school for children with learning disabilities, bedford has just opened its new facility in north Fayette.

Angel's House is another recipient, a projected safe house to be built in Coweta for abused children. Construction of the group home, set to begin in January, is the fulfillment of a dream of Bernie Parks, who has worked to raise funds for the home.

Checks also were presented to the local chapter of St. Vincent De Paul and the Fayette Samaritans to help these organizations with their work. Both groups help local residents when financial need arises.

The Clothes Less traveled Thrift Shop is a nonprofit store off Huddleston Drive in Peachtree City. It resells donated items, which include a variety of clothing for the entire family as well as furniture and house wares. The shop is always in need of volunteers, and donated items also are needed.

Profits are awarded quarterly to charitable groups in Fayette and Coweta. Local nonprofit groups may apply for funding and volunteers and donors can get information at 770-486-8517.
