Burn ban still in effect for safety Local residents are reminded that Fayette County's ban on outdoor burning is still in effect as officials worry such a fire could start a large blaze due to dry conditions. County fire personnel responded to a number of outdoor burns last week despite a notice that no such activity will be permitted due to dry conditions. The ban will be lifted once conditions improve, according to Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. The ban covers unincorporated Fayette County, including Brooks, Woolsey and Tyrone. To determine when it is safe again to burn outdoors, residents are asked to contact the county's burn permit line at 770-460-5730, ext. 5468. Peachtree City has also enacted a ban on outdoor burning.
