Lake Peachtree dredging planned

Fayette County water officials will ask the government of Peachtree City for space to stage a planned dredging of Lake Peachtree.

The last time the lake was dredged, silt from the bottom was removed, but not hauled away. This time, it will likely be necessary to haul the silt away, which will require a staging area for trucks, and for drying some of the silt, said Water System director Tony Parrott.

Officials will ask Peachtree City for permission to use the four-acre Drake Field site it recently purchased near City Hall.

If that permission is refused, "we'll need to look for some other place," Parrott told the county Water Committee.

Officials are expecting to encounter less silt in the lake this time, Parrott said. Board members said regulations governing silt control at construction sites probably have reduced the amount of soil washing into lakes and streams.
