Suspects laid in wait for victims of Fayetteville home invasion

Police believe five black males suspected in the recent home invasion robbery of a Fayetteville couple hid near the residence waiting for someone to come home.

One of the suspects, Kevin Zardies, 36, of College Park, is already in custody while detectives seek to identify four others involved, according to Lt. Tom Kirkbride of the Fayetteville Police Department.

The couple, who live on Woodbyne Drive, were bound with duct tape in the foyer area of the house and the suspects got away with $5,000 in cash and $70,000 in jewelry, according to law enforcement documents. One or both of the victims was approached after arriving home during the late evening hours of Friday, Nov. 9, Kirkbride said.

None of the articles taken in the heist have been recovered yet, he added.

The female victim was able to eventually free herself of the duct tape and call 911, according to police.

The warrant for Zardies's arrest indicates he used intimidation to rob the couple, placing them in fear of serious bodily injury.

Zardies is being held at the Fayette County Jail after Magistrate Court Judge A.K. Melear denied him bond in a hearing last week.

Detectives are still investigating the case, attempting to identify more of the suspects. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-461-4441.
