One of five suspects who recently robbed a Fayetteville couple of cash and jewelry during an armed robbery has been arrested.

Kevin Zardies, 36, of College Park, was arrested Monday on one felony count of robbery; he is still in custody at the Fayette County Jail after Judge A.K. Melear denied his request for bond.

The victims, who live on Woodbyne Drive, were bound with duct tape in the foyer area of the house and the suspects got away with $5,000 in cash and $70,000 in jewelry, according to law enforcement documents.

According to the report filed by the Fayetteville Police Department, a gun was used during the crime. Neither of the victims was hurt, according to police Lt. Beverly Trainor.

The female victim was able to get free of the duct tape and call 911, Trainor said. But police were not able to recover any weapons after canvassing the area, Trainor added.

Zardies was one of five black males who committed the robbery, according to a warrant filed for his arrest. The warrant also stated that Zardies used intimidation to rob the couple by intimidating them and placing them in fear of serious bodily injury.

The case is still under investigation, Trainor said.
