New public works building is tabled

A proposed new public works building for Senoia will have to wait at least another two weeks before it is approved.

The City Council table a request to approve an $81,000 bid for the facility after Councilman Bill Wood said he wanted more time to study the bids.

The winning bid was $81,000 and consists of a prefabricated metal building that city workers will finish on the inside.

The other bids were for "turn-key" operations, but Wood wanted to know if a request for proposal had been sent out to prospective bidders.

Mayor Joan Trammell said the money for the building is coming from sales tax funds, and the city is trying to get the building ordered before workers have to spend another harsh winter in their current facility.

But Wood said he would rather have time to study all the bids and make a recommendation in two weeks.

Council voted 4-1 with Trammel opposed to table the idea.

She urged the council to "Do your homework" before the next meeting so a decision can be reached.
