Several custom builders at work in Arbor Springs Plantation

Home shoppers looking in the resort-style community of Arbor Springs Plantation love the wooded one to five acre estate homesites. Conveniently located at exit 51 off I-85, this community is just 20 minutes south of the airport in Newnan.

An exclusive group of six custom builders offer homes starting in the $300's to over $1 million. Purchasers may choose to use their own custom designs or work one on one with the builder to create their dream home.

Mike Edwards, president of Edwards Quality Homes, has more than 15 years of home building experience and is an active member of the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia. He and Lynn specialize in creating one-of-a-kind homes with high-quality craftsmanship, using top-grade materials, and traditional building techniques; integrating both with the latest in technological advances.

Mike and Lynn pride themselves in being on the cutting edge of Smart Home technology. Their knowledge of advanced cable and telecommunications wiring assures the client that their home will have twenty-first century technology capabilities.

Customization of each new home is Mike and Lynn's trademark. They also believe in quality craftsmanship and their diligent personal supervision during all stages of construction is evident when the home is completed.

Lichty Brothers Construction, founded in 1991, is family owned and operated under the leadership of Galen and Dan Lichty. The company has more than 40 years of combined building experience.

Lichty Brothers' homes are built by a family for a family. The brothers feel this deep-rooted commitment to family sets Lichty Brothers Construction apart from the crowd. Understanding the dynamics of siblings and relatives helps them better understand their clients. Because building a home is building a lifestyle, Galen and Dan take extra care to involve the home buyer in the planning and construction process.

At Lichty Brothers the goals are to build quality products that last, to always impart a little warmth in every home, and to be ever mindful that their last client is the best advertising they could every have.

Mac McKinney, president of McKinney Builders has 25 years of home-building experience and he serves on the Board of Directors for the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia. He has built his reputation by working closely with buyers to produce top-quality homes that are delivered on time and within budget. McKinney emphasizes personal supervision during all phases of construction. He has built hundreds of single family homes.

Mac was chosen by Southern Living to be among the exclusive network of builders to represent them in their custom builder program. Members are selected based on their reputation for quality craftsmanship and outstanding customer service. They share a common goal of promoting excellence in design and construction throughout the south.

"In today's market, you must accommodate your customers, as they are far more educated than ever before," said McKinney. "When the buyer and the builder work closely together, both with a full understanding of budget and time constraints, it makes for a top-quality product and a win-win situation."

Jerry Gyorgy, president of Gyorgy Homes, has been building homes for more than 33 years. He began his career by reclaiming houses that were in disrepair, updating them and then reselling them. Then he undertook extensive remodeling and restoration projects. As he continued to gain knowledge, he moved into building high-end custom homes.

Today Gyorgy is recognized as a premier builder of luxury custom homes. Gyorgy's design and construction earned "Best Floor Plan" at The Street of Dreams. He also earned "Best Kitchen" and "Best Value" honors for his home at the Parade of Homes. He is an active member of the Midwest Georgia Home Builders Association.

A native Atlantan and graduate of Washington & Lee University, Richard Simms began his construction and building career in 1980 working for a large volume Atlanta building company, and rapidly rose to a top management position with direct responsibility for the logistics of building up to 750 homes per year. In 1985 he started his own companyconcentrating on providing a high level of quality and personal service.

By building approximately twenty custom homes per year, Richard can ensure each house is built with pride and that every customer receives excellent service, both before, but especially after the sale.

Richard makes it his personal goal to ensure that there is excellent communication between customer and builder and that customer satisfaction remains the main mission of his company.

Richard Simms is Past President of the Midwest Georgia Home Builders Association, voted Builder of the Year for 1996 by that organization, voted Builder of the Year for 1999 by the city of Peachtree City, currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Midwest Georgia Home Builders Association and the Homebuilders Association of Georgia.

Southwind Homes is owned and operated by two third-generation builders, Charlie B. Harper and Kevin Walker, who never forget that their efforts will result in a family's home. Because they produce only a limited number of houses per year, they are able to spend time making sure that each home reflects the owner's individual tastes and personality.

Homes built by Southwind Homes generally feature large, livable porches, spacious master suites, chef's kitchens with ample space, and the highest level of interior and exterior detail. Home plans are selected to compliment the natural surroundings of the building site, with conservation of existing foliage receiving high priority.

Southwind specializes in custom homes from the 300's. Having built homes in Fayette and Coweta counties, their efforts are now focused in Newnan's Arbor Springs Plantation.
