Outdoor burning banned due to dry weather, danger
An outdoor burn ban has been implemented for Peachtree City and unincorporated Fayette County, including Brooks, Woolsey and Tyrone. Fire officials said the ban will be in place indefinitely, at least until the area gets some significant rain. With the dry weather, the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services has been running more brush fire calls, said Capt. Pete Nelms. A smoldering 10-acre blaze in Tyrone has caused a hazard in Peachtree City with significant amounts of smoke affecting the Ardenlee subdivision in particular, said Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr. "We have been running a lot of smoke calls," Lohr said. Nelms said the county wants to prevent fires from getting out of control, which has occurred in the past few days in areas around metro Atlanta.
