The Fayetteville City Council will have its same members back on board when it convenes in January to begin the 2002 term.

Walt White will keep his Post 3 seat, thanks to a whopping 3-1 win over challenger Lee Hunt in Tuesday's election. White racked up 246 votes, or 78.59 percent, to 67 votes for Hunt.

Larry Dell (Post 4) and Al Hovey-King (Post 5) are returning to office after being unopposed.

Voter turnout in the city was light, with 316 out of 6,059 registered voters (5 percent) going to the polls. Due to increased turnout in recent elections, Fayetteville utilized two polling places Tuesday for the first time ever.

White begins his 13th year in office in January. After winning his seat in 1989, he won a second two-year term in 1991. Then the terms were changed to last four years, and he won again in 1993 and 1997.

Dell and Hovey-King both came into office via a special election in 1988.
