Incumbents returned to office By JOHN
THOMPSON It was a big night for incumbents Tuesday night in three municipal elections in South Fulton County. Union City Mayor Ralph Moore received 81 percent of the votes and beat challenger Larry Waits by a count of 546-124. Union City voters also returned two city councilmen back to office. Shirley Jackson, with 378 votes, and Barbara Bohannon, with 267 votes, held off challenges from Milton Foster and Roger Dukes. Foster received 250 votes, while Foster claimed 242. Just down U.S. Highway 29 in Fairburn, Mayor Betty Hannah easily beat two challengers. Hannah received 508 votes, while Michael Johnson got 236 votes and Roger Bussell garnered 35 votes. Three incumbent city councilmen also won reelection in Fairburn. Incumbent Glenn Higgins led all council candidates with 508 votes, while incumbents Roy Farr and Doug Crawford both got 477 votes. Farther down Hwy. 29, Palmetto voters also returned three incumbent city council members to office. Incumbents Bill Burnham and James Harper both received 186 votes, while the other incumbent, John Farr, tallied 178 votes. Challengers Willie Reese and Bonnie Holmes received 157 and 129 votes respectively.
