Ogletree is named youth of the year The Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club has announced that Jamal Ogletree has been named its Youth of the Year. Ogletree was honored for being a positive representative of his club and community, said a spokesman. Each month, a remarkable youth is chosen as the club's most outstanding young person. Selected from more than 220 Boys & Girls Club members, the youths of the month are honored for their dedication and service to family, school, community and the Boys & Girls Club. "Jamal is a wonderful young man. We are very proud of all he has done and look forward to seeing what he will do in the future," said Eric Osborne, executive director of the club. Every fall, one of the youths of the month is chosen as Youth of the Year to represent the club at the metro-wide Youth of the Year dinner. One nominee is then named Youth of the Year for metro Atlanta and goes on to compete for state and regional honors. These winners will be honored at an awards dinner, presented by Delta Air Lines and Philips Consumer Electronics, at the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta Monday, Nov. 19. Gulstan Dart and Vickie Newton of WSB-TV will emcee the event. The metro Atlanta Youth of the Year will be announced during the ceremony. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta operates 20 year-round clubs in 10 metro counties in addition to Camp Kiwanis and Youth Art Connection, a gallery and work space for young artists. A trained and professional staff serves more than 26,000 youth annually by offering specialized programming and a safe haven for at-risk and disadvantaged children and teens. With help from volunteers, Boys & Girls Clubs staff provides leadership, guidance and skill development to its members, empowering them to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens, said Osborne.
