Eagle project enhances school

Matthew Roberts recently completed his Eagle Scout project at the Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville, a school serving children with special needs.

Roberts chose an outdoor facility that would serve as a nature classroom with wheelchair accessibility and extensive landscaping. He led numerous Scouts and adults in the project, with the main focus an eight-by-eight-foot gazebo purchased through fund-raising that spanned most of the past year.

Roberts has been a member of Troop 181 since first grade, when he joined the Tiger Cubs. He proceeded through Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy Scouts and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.

As a senior at McIntosh High School, he serves as lieutenant governor for the 8th District Key Club and plans to attend college after graduation next May.

Roberts is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Roberts.
