Drs. Sams honored for a 'Century of Service'

Drs. Helen and Ferrol Sams were honored for their combined 'Century of Service' at a dinner and roast and toast recently.

The event, attended by more than 300 guests at the Ritz Carlton Atlanta, recognized the Sams' 50 years of commitment and service to the people of Fayette and the surrounding counties.

Bob Steed of King and Spalding was master of ceremonies. Roasters included Ludlow Porch, Dr. Kirby Godsey and the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews, Jack Dettmering and Bill Emerson. Helen Wolter, the Sams' granddaughter, spoke on behalf of the grandchildren and family members.

The evening raised over $90,000, which will be used to support the Joseph Sams School's "Back to School for Special Kids" three-year initiative.

The school, named after the Sams' grandson, provides early intervention, educational and therapeutic services to children with intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities, ages 18 months through 15 years. The facility, at 280 Brandywine Boulevard, currently serves children from six metro Atlanta counties.

For more information about the school phone Lana Carr, 770-461-5894.
