The American Legion log cabin building will be the site this Saturday for a silent and live auction.

Several hundred sports memorabilia will be up for bid in the auction, given by the Southwest Christian Hospice and Hope House.

The silent auction is at 4 p.m., and tables of items will be ready for people to write down their bids. At 5 p.m., a live auction begins with autographed items from baseball greats Greg Maddox, Chipper Jones, Mark McGuire, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, John Smoltz, Ken Griffey Jr. and Andruw Jones.

Along with weekend getaways, Braves game jerseys and dinner certificates, the event promises to be full of surprises.

Admission is $3.

Proceeds will benefit Southwest Christian Hospice, a nonprofit ministry providing home-based and center-based hospice care. This care extends to terminally ill persons and their families throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area.

The hospice's ninth annual banquet will take place Friday, Dec. 7, at the Cobb Galleria with former First Lady Barbara Bush as the speaker.
