Suspect held on attempted rape charges By JOHN
MUNFORD
A Stockbridge man has been arrested for the attempted rape of a woman while both spending the night at a residence on Goza Road Sunday. James Orain Jenkins Jr., 32, is accused of getting on top of the victim early Sunday morning while she was sleeping on a sofa at 119 Goza Road, said Lt. Mahlon Donald of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The victim awoke to find Jenkins taking off some of her clothes although she was able to escape to another room in the house and seek assistance, Donald said. "When she woke up, she was able to push him off and run away," Donald said. Jenkins was found hiding in a car parked in the backyard of the residence after deputies arrived. He was arrested on the spot; he also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana, Donald said. Jenkins, the victim and several others had gone drinking earlier in the evening and the victim, 27, of McDonough, declined to drive home because she felt she was too intoxicated, Donald added. Jenkins is a relative of the owner of the residence, Donald said. A bond hearing had not been held on Jenkins as of Tuesday afternoon.
