Water plant is back in business

So far, Senoia's water plant is running smooth.

City Administrator Leonard Thompson said the city was expecting some rust to run through the pipes, but the city has not received any complaints.

The water plant was out of commission for nearly six years after a tropical storm breached the dam at Hutchinson's Lake, which is the city's water source.

But last week, the switch was turned on and now, nearly all of the water flowing through the taps comes from the city's water plant.

"The only areas being served by the county's water are Cumberland, Couch's Hill and Emory Village," he said.

In the next two weeks, the city will have a better idea as to an average daily water use, and computers are now playing a big part in the everyday operation of the plant.

"If something happens after hours, the computer makes the call to someone," Thompson said

Earlier this year, the City Council approved a two-year $116,000 contract to J and T Environmental Services to run the city's plant.

City Administrator Leonard Thompson said the two-year term will give the city enough time to find and train water operators and eventually run the plant.

J and T is owned by Rick Jeffries, who is also on the city's Planning Commission.
