Some ideas for Jenkins-Ellison road intersection

As a resident of Gaelic Glen subdivision which is bounded by Jenkins and Ellison roads, I don't think any discussion about the intersection of these two roads is complete without mentioning the need for extra turn lanes.

Our subdivision unfortunately is used as a shortcut for the "after school" traffic wishing to avoid the congested backup at the above-mentioned intersection; unfortunately I have counted as many as 30 to 40 cars back to back speeding through Gaelic Way to cut through to Ellison at the back entrance to the subdivision. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident with another car or possible accident involving a child occurs, but this is a subject for another letter.

I and others in our subdivision have felt for a while that some of the cut-through traffic could be alleviated by adding a separate right-hand turn lane for those cars wishing to make a right on to Ellison from Jenkins.

Another solution would be to place a deputy at the intersection for approximately 30 minutes during the peak flow of traffic from Sandy Creek High School to keep the traffic from backing up on Jenkins.

This is a safety issue that the county should deal with for all concerned the residents of Gaelic Glen, drivers navigating Jenkins and Ellison, and our children.
