Hooters fine F'ville action on underage drinking just 'slap on wrist' The $1,000 fine and written warning that was recommended by Fayetteville city officials against Hooters restaurant after an underage drinking incident last month is not a stiff enough penalty under the circumstances. This was not just a case of someone failing to verify the age of a patron before serving them alcohol, but a deliberate violation of the law. This violation should cause them to lose their license to sell alcohol for a minimum three months. The fine and warning that was imposed is only a slap on the wrist and by no means will deter this type of behavior in the future. Many residents of Fayetteville did not want Hooters to open up shop in our fine city to begin with because of its reputation. Mr. Brooks can call his establishment a "family restaurant" all he wants. A pig in a dress is still a pig. The liberal-mindedness of the city manager and city council members is of the type that will invite more of this type of behavior. New and stiffer laws need to be put into place by people who have the vision to make Fayetteville a better city. Citizens of Fayetteville should be outraged over this matter, and should let their feelings be known at the next mayoral and city council elections. Matthew Washburn Fayetteville
