GOP golf tournament a success

The Fayette County Republican Party raised money for several causes during its annual Paul Heard Memorial Golf Tournament last week.

The fund-raiser will provide partial funding for local candidates running for office, with part of the money being donated to the Mid-South Cancer Research Foundation in Memphis, Tenn., and to relief efforts in New York City and Washington, D.C.

"With so many needs around the country, we just wanted to do our part," said tournament organizer Bill Bonner.

Helen Heard, widow of well-known local leader Paul Heard, and other members of the Heard family were on hand to congratulate winners and help hand out prizes. The winning score of 59 was turned in by the team of Carl Ryals, Jim Witmer, Phil Colston and Tony Yeatman, each taking home a new golf bag for his efforts.

Further donations can be sent to P.O. Box 1387, Fayetteville 30214.
