Coweta County school officials may soon adopt a policy for redistricting.

In the past, the school system has been plagued by charges of not communicating when it comes to drawing up new attendance lines.

But last week, the school board's policy committee chairman Rick Melville said his committee was studying policies from different systems to implement in Coweta County.

The policy that's being looked at most closely is Troup County's. Troup's policy has seven elements to be used when establishing attendance areas:

·The educational goals of the school system.

·The organizational plan for the school system and for each school.

·Efficiency and safety of transportation for students.

·Requirements of the federal court.

·Requirements of the Georgia Department of Education.

·State and federal laws that might apply.

·Any other relevant education issues and factors.

Melville said his committee would bring back a recommendation to the board at the Nov.13 meeting on whether the policy should be adopted.
