Community volunteers needed for mentoring program

The Fayette County School System is in need of community volunteers who would like to become mentors for students.

Mentoring is a one-to-one experience in which an adult and a student are matched to form a relationship that assists the youth in dealing with the complexities he or she faces at school, at home and in the community at large. Mentors are asked to commit one hour of their time each week to work with a student at his or her school.

A mentoring training workshop has been scheduled for Oct. 11 from 7-9 p.m. at McIntosh High School, 201 Walt Banks Road in Peachtree City. Anyone wishing to attend the workshop or to receive more information should call Donna Worcester, of the Fayette County School's Friends Mentoring Program, at 770-460-3535, extension 173.
