Students show true colors in country's time of need Students at Peachtree City Elementary School are showing their support, hope and concern for the victims of the terrorist attack on New York City and Washington, D.C. by adorning the school's grounds in red, white and blue. Each student was given a red, white or blue ribbon to tie on trees and other structures around the school. Fourth grade students helped to decorate the fence surrounding the school's playground by using red, white and blue cups to spell out "USA" and construction and crape paper to design an American flag. "This gives the children a sense of helping out. It is so important for them to try to understand what happened. Activities like this makes them feel like they are doing their part," said PTO President Marjorie Bachman. Students at the school are doing more than symbolically expressing their support. They are also in the process of writing letters to President George W. Bush to voice their support for his job and to tell him the freedoms for which they are thankful to enjoy in this country. Fourth-grade student Rory Bertram suggested that the school raise money for the attack victims and their families. The school warmly embraced his idea, so students are planning to collect loose change at Peachtree City Elementary next week and donate it to the American Red Cross relief fund. "The students are aware of what is happening in our country. It gives them a sense of pride to come together and do what they can to help during this crisis. I am very proud of all of their efforts," said Principal Lynda Lambeth. Lambeth also said she expresses her appreciation to Peachtree Florist in Peachtree City and Neighborhood Market Florist in Sharpsburg for donating the ribbons and bows that were used by the students to decorate the school.
