Approximately $2 million in drug money has been seized by deputies of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department from a sting that took place Oct. 5 in Clayton County.

The seizure took place after two suspects came to a residence off Old National Highway in College Park expecting to buy cocaine, said Maj. Bruce Jordan of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. Instead, the two happened upon agents from the Sheriff's Department, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the Fulton County Police Department, Jordan said.

The sting came from information the Sheriff's Department uncovered in an ongoing drug investigation, Jordan added.

One suspect has been arrested and warrants have been issued for another person for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm for distributing cocaine, Jordan said; both charges were filed at the federal level.

The suspect in custody is Byron Sylvester Pitts, 33, who had a .40 caliber Glock handgun when the sting occurred, Jordan said; still at large is Stephen Bernard Pitts, 31.

Fayette County stands to receive approximately $1 million of the confiscated funds, from the incident, Jordan said.

Since June of this year, a total of $3.8 million in drug money has been seized by agents working in cooperation with local sheriff's officials, Jordan said.
