Council retreat next weekend
By MONROE ROARK
The Fayetteville City Council will gather at Callaway Gardens next weekend for its annual retreat, beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Sunday morning. The three-hour session Friday, beginning at 3 p.m., will consist of a five-year financial forecast, according to an agenda released late last week. Plans concerning staff and capital improvement programs are expected to be discussed. Saturday morning's session begins with a discussion of the city's old wastewater treatment plant and options concerning its possible reactivation. That will be followed by an update of storm water utility issues, a discussion of the fence ordinance and an update on several development projects, such as The Village, the proposed south side master plan, the third phase of Fayette Pavilion, and future annexation issues. City Attorney David Winkle is expected to give an update on pending litigation and other legal issues. This is the only portion of the retreat that would likely be closed to the public, much like an executive session after a regular council meeting. Also scheduled for Saturday afternoon is a discussion of a Georgia Tech fiscal impact land use planning study, along with update of various Main Street and Downtown Development Authority programs, such as construction and financial status of bond projects and issues regarding the historic preservation ordinance. Other matters on Saturday's agenda include county tax equity, the county jail agreement, intersection improvements at Ramah and Redwine roads, and water service at Lakeside on Redwine. A brief session is scheduled for Sunday morning to review the city's mission statement, goals and objectives, and strategic plan. The council will convene Thursday night at City Hall for its regular meeting.
