PTC Council disbands CCY

Peachtree City's Commission on Children and Youth is a concept of the past.

The City Council agreed to a request to disband the commission at its regular council meeting Thursday night.

One of the influencing factors in the decision was that the CCY's mission to help children in the community is now being done by Fayette FACTOR (Family Alliance Coordinating Teamwork, Outreach, and Resources). FACTOR chair Jill Holmes Long said it is a group of local service providers working together to meet youths' needs.

Councilman Steve Rapson was appointed by council to serve on FACTOR's board of directors, which meets quarterly. Having a council representative on that board "shows that council cares about the children," said CCY Chairwoman Cele Eifert.

FACTOR is conducting a countywide assessment on juvenile delinquency, Long said.

The CCY had recommended to council that it be disbanded because it is ineffective and FACTOR would be meeting similar goals.
