Board purchases property for school site

The Coweta County School System has purchased acreage in the city of Grantville as a future school site.

The 20.8-acre site, formerly owned by Margaret Ann Long, lies between and adjoins the existing Grantville Brown school site and U.S. Highway 29 south.

The contract to purchase the land, for $250,000, was closed Monday, Oct. 1.

Grantville Brown, a former Coweta County school, is owned by the school system, and leased to the West Georgia Regional Education Service Agency serving Coweta County and five other counties in the West Georgia region.

Although there are no immediate plans to begin construction, Superintendent Richard Brooks said the acreage will be held in reserve and used as a future school site.

Coweta County school board and school system officials have long discussed the possibility of building a new school in the Grantville area.
