Program battling teen DUI deaths debuts

A national campaign to fight the number one killer of American teens alcohol-related traffic accidents was kicked off last week in neighboring Clayton County.

The program, called Courage to Live, brings judges into schools to conduct DUI hearings live so students can witness firsthand what happens to those who are caught driving under the influence.

Speakers also are used to drive home the point that drinking and driving don't mix.

The campaign is sponsored by the National Judicial College and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. One goal of the program is to help students devise action plans they can use in their own schools to help teach others that drinking and driving is extremely dangerous.
