Fayetteville woman charged with trafficking, selling methamphetamine

A Fayetteville woman has been arrested for trafficking methamphetamine by the drug suppression unit of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Patricia Lynn Barrett is charged with having more than 100 grams of meth at her residence on Courtyard Lane, according to warrants filed for her arrest. She faces three felony counts: trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and selling methamphetamine.

The selling charge came from a purchase set up by investigators between Barrett and a confidential informant, police said. Barrett gave the informant approximately 28 grams of methamphetamine in exchange for a 200-pound bottle of anhydrous ammonia, a chemical used to manufacture methamphetamine, according to Lt. Mike Pruitt of the drug suppression unit.

Officers planned to stake out the residence and follow the bottle to a meth lab, but it became clear that would not take place immediately, Pruitt said. Not wanting the bottle to slip away to a meth lab, officers decided to arrest Barrett after a traffic stop during which deputies found nine bags of methamphetamine.

A search warrant on Barrett's residence netted 101 grams of methamphetamine, Pruitt noted.

The total amount of meth confiscated has a street value beyond $11,000, he said.
