Group VI only bidder for new WASA administration building

Only one company has submitted a bid to build a new administration building for the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority.

WASA has authorized General Manager Larry Turner to negotiate with Group VI to further reduce the price. Turner said the authority originally budgeted about $1.4 million for the project, but the bid from Group VI came in a little lower than that.

"They authorized me to negotiate with Group VI to get it even lower," Turner said.

Turner said he didn't know why Group VI was the only firm to bid on the work. The authority advertised the process ahead of time, he added.

The administration building will be built just off Ga. Highway 74 South adjacent to the Rockaway wastewater treatment plant. Currently, the authority's administration facilities are at the Flat Creek wastewater treatment plant, which will eventually be shuttered due to its old age and high cost of operation after the sewer expansion is completed.

In other business, the authority increased its budgeted amount for regulatory fees in the new budget. The line item had been slashed from $114,000 to $25,000 at the previous WASA meeting, but Turner said he reviewed that figure and felt $25,000 was too low.

Turner said the budget for regulatory fees was increased to $50,000. The fund would be used to pay any fine that might be imposed by state environmental officials.
