Ban lifted on burning outdoor debris here Fayette County's outdoor burning ban has been lifted. Outdoor burning will be permitted during daylight hours and by permit only. To obtain a burn permit for a location in unincorporated Fayette County, Tyrone, Brooks and Woolsey, residents should call the automated burn permit line at 770-460-5730, ext. 5468. Fayetteville residents are only required to notify the Fire Department before they plan to burn by calling 770-461-4548. Fayetteville has no formal permitting process for outdoor burning. Peachtree City residents are required to call the department at 770-631-2588, ext. 555. A recorded message will indicate whether burning will be permitted for the day (based on weather conditions) and if so, the resident will be asked to leave their name, address and phone number. All residents are asked to utilize safe outdoor burning practices and extinguish all fires before dark. For more safety information, visit the department's website at www.admin.co.fayette.ga.us. Contractors or homeowners who wish to burn debris from land-clearing operations in unincorporated Fayette County, Tyrone, Brooks and Woolsey should contact the department headquarters at 770-460-5730, ext. 5414 Monday through Friday for a commercial burn permit. The Georgia Forestry Commission offers firebreak plowing for a nominal charge. They also offer burning assistance and will "stand by" for no charge. For more information, contact the local office at 770-254-7218. The annual burning ban will resume May 1, 2002. It is enacted to help protect air quality during the summer months.
