Hampton man charged in stolen tractor conspiracy

Police have arrested another alleged co-conspirator in a scheme to sell stolen John Deere tractors from a motorcycle shop in Fayette County.

Steve Richardson, 32, of Hampton was arrested Monday morning on felony state racketeering and conspiracy charges. He is accused of stealing some of the equipment that was sold at American Twin Motorcycles at prices of up to 50 percent off retail, according to Maj. Bruce Jordan of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Richardson's bond was set at $xxx,xxx by Magistrate Court Judge xxxxxx xxxxxxx Tuesday afternoon.

So far, 23 pieces of equipment, including tractors and four-wheel utility vehicles, have been recovered. The stolen equipment carried a value of $1.5 million.

The equipment was stolen from John Deere dealerships across the Southeast and transported to Fayette in covered moving vans, Jordan said.

Racketeering warrants have also been filed against Lewis Gilbert Shirley, 56, of Fayetteville; Kenneth J. Green, 32, of Griffin, and Bobby Leon Green, 34, of Atlanta. None of these men were in custody as of Tuesday morning.
