Local youths earn scholarships

Five South Fulton residents have won $500 college scholarships for 2001-2002 from South Fulton Dollars for Scholars Inc.

Created by the Housing Authority of Fulton County to help students in public housing pursue post-high school education, the non-profit organization has expanded to include residents of the surrounding community.

The recipients are:

n Erika Gomillon, a Red Oak Townhomes resident majoring in business at Atlanta Technical College.

n Devita Jacobs, majoring in international studies at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.

n Lakesha Moore, a Westlake High School graduate majoring in business and finance at Spelman College in Atlanta.

n Ternesca Ritchey, a Banneker High School graduate majoring in English and education at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

n Robert Sullivan, a Banneker High School graduate majoring in computer engineering at the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton.

Scholarships are awarded based on qualities such as work experience, school and community activities, and academic record to appeal to a wide range of deserving students.

The application process begins each February.
