Military brats plan gathering

The Military Brats Network (the combined efforts of the Military-Brats Registry and Military Brats Online) is sponsoring a cookout and gathering at beautiful Panola Mountain State Park, just outside of Atlanta.

According to Vann Baker, webmaster of Military Brats Online (www.militarybrats.com), "Military Brats, the children of career military families, typically live a life of constant moving from base to base, leaving friends behind. This event will bring together Military Brats in the Atlanta area so they may celebrate a unique heritage."

When asked where they are from, a typical military brat will answer, "All over." The Atlanta Area Brat Gathering will allow Military Brats to reconnect with others who have shared the same experience and culture of growing up in a military family.

The gathering will get underway at noon and will go until 5 p.m. The event is open to all military brats, regardless of branch of service or what school they graduated from.

During the Saturday picnic event, military brats will be able to donate memorabilia to Operation Footlocker (www.tckworld/opfoot), which has authorized Military Brat Network and the Atlanta Area Military Brats to set up and maintain a new footlocker which will be based in the Atlanta area.

"The footlocker serves as a travelling museum, and will eventually be filled with yearbooks, ID cards, 'dog' tags and other items which were a part of the Military Brat experience," according to Marc Curtis, webmaster for the Military-Brats Registry (www.military-brats.com) and co-sponsor of the event.

The event will also offer door prizes. The cost is $10 per adult and children over 12 years of age. Children under 12 are admitted free of charge.
