Senoia's Main Street will soon be sporting a new look.

Coweta County Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter asked the County Commission Tuesday to let county workers build the new planters in the town's downtown area.

The city's Downtown Development Authority received a grant to replace the planters that are currently built of crossties.

The new planters will be brick and be more in tune with the city's historic flavor, officials say. Hunter asked the board to let authority member Jimmy Hutchinson oversee the work.

In other news, the commission:

Approved a resolution condemning last Tuesday's terroristic attacks in New York City and Washington.

Reported the open house at the new fairgrounds facility on Pine Road was a rousing success. The fair opened this week, and the board has heard nothing but favorable comments from residents.

Agreed to let the American Legion display MIA and POW flags at the Coweta County Courthouse today. The group is staging a special ceremony to rally the troops after last week's attacks.

Approved a $20,000 change order for the new water tank in the Canongate community. Assistant administrator Eddie Whitlock said the engineering firm of Palmer and Stevenson had evaluated the site and determined there was no rock in the area.

But when construction started, the crew ran into a heavy bed of rock and needed the extra $20,000 to eliminate it.

Commissioner Hunter wondered if sounding equipment had been used to look for rock and asked Whitlock to investigate the situation further.
