The suspect believed responsible for a carjacking at the Fayette Pavilion Wal-Mart has been arrested.

For a time, it was questionable whether Miguel Sanchez Vasquez would survive injuries he received when he wrecked Pamela Davidson's vehicle as he fled the scene. But Vasquez has recovered, according to Fayetteville police spokesman Lt. Tom Kirkbride.

Vasquez, 25, of Forest Park, was arrested Sept. 7. He is charged with kidnapping, theft by taking and robbery by intimidation stemming from the incident, which occurred during the early morning hours of July 8.

By waiting to arrest Vasquez until a later date, it kept the city from being stuck with the suspect's steep medical bills.

Davidson told police the suspect forced her into the vehicle and drove away, but she was able to escape by jumping out of the vehicle. A Fayetteville police officer attempted to follow the vehicle after noticing it moments later and suspecting its driver was intoxicated. The officer followed the vehicle out of the city limits and discovered the wrecked Ford Explorer further north on Ga. Highway 85, according to police.
