Qualifying for the upcoming municipal election in Peachtree City ended Friday afternoon with four candidates seeking the mayor's seat and another six candidates for the two council seats up for grabs in the election.

Qualifying for mayor as expected was local resident Steve Brown; however, previously announced candidate Fred Wellman has declined to run, citing a committment to serve in the Army Reserves in light of the recent terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C.

Brown won't lack competition, though, as three others qualified to run against him: former state legislator Dan Lakly, former director of city emergency services Frank Murphy and Delta pilot Gary Rower.

Both incumbent council members Carol Fritz and Steve Rapson qualified to seek election to their posts. Fritz, who is finishing her first full term on council will face the most opposition with three candidates qualified against her: Alison Chambers, Gerald Ostrowski and Murray J. Weed.

Only one person qualified to face Rapson: former city clerk Nancy Faulkner.
