An unexpected gathering place

Crowds descend on Beef O'Brady's for food, news of attacks

Beef O'Brady's in Peachtree City, billed as a "family sports pub," was an immensely busy place last week, albeit under unfortunate circumstances.

The restaurant, which has been in operation for only a month, was the destination of choice for many workers and customers in the Peachtree Crossing shopping center after word surfaced of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. Locals packed the dining room to get a glimpse of what was happening on one of the 18 television sets scattered throughout.

It wasn't the way Sonny Ishmael, who owns and manages the restaurant with his wife, Donna, and another couple, wanted to see the place filled up. "I'd rather they came in to watch a ball game," he said.

But that incident was proof that Beef O'Brady's has made itself a reputation in Peachtree City in just a short time since its Aug. 13 opening. There are 63 Beef O'Brady's locations in the United States, but this is the first in Georgia for the Tampa-based company.

"We opened Beef O'Brady's because Peachtree City needed a place that everyone in the family could enjoy," the owners said.

Future plans call for several more locations in the metro Atlanta area.

The best-known dishes on the menu are the wings which can be served mild, medium, hot or nuclear and the Watterson and Reuben sandwiches. With the exception of the very large servings of wings, no item on the menu is more than $7.

Kids eat free every Tuesday night with the purchase of an adult entree. There is also a separate game room for the younger set.

In addition to the salads and sandwiches, there is an ever-changing dessert menu at Beef O'Brady's, although Oreo cheesecake is a constant favorite.

Takeout orders are also available, and wings are an exceptionally good choice for takeout, according to the owners. Call 770-486-1860 to give it a try.

Beef O'Brady's is at 100 Peachtree Parkway North, behind Chick-fil-A. That's right along a major north-south thoroughfare for Peachtree City's golf carts, which travel right alongside the edge of the building toward the tunnel next to McDonald's that takes riders underneath Ga. Highway 54. So even though it's hard to see from the highway, it's certainly in a high-traffic area.
