Signs urging retaliation to terrorism found by police, given to FBI
By JOHN MUNFORD
Fayetteville police have collected two handwritten signs urging revenge for the terroristic actions that struck New York and Washington Tuesday, killing thousands. Appearances of the signs Wednesday afternoon, one taped to an electrical box at the former A&T Market and another at the nearby Kwickie/Flash Foods convenience store, mimic signs found in other jurisdictions, said Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was called in and the signs were turned over to the FBI's custody, Trainor said. Trainor said the department didn't want to release the exact wording on the signs to keep from heightening emotions about the situation. "Someone, we don't know who, whether a group or a single person," put up the signs, Trainor said. "They were trying to get people rallied to go do something." The signs did not identify a particular target or action, Trainor said. She added that other jurisdictions have had reports of similar signs. Police received another report of a similar sign located at the ATM at Hudson Plaza, but if there was one, it was gone by the time officers arrived," Trainor said. Duct tape similar to that used on the other signs was found at the ATM, however, she said. There is no indication when the signs were placed, Trainor said.
