Historic College Park celebrates second annual festival Saturday

College Park gets into the festival action this weekend with the second annual Historic College Park Festival Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

College Park was founded in 1896 and is less than 10 miles from downtown Atlanta. It is the fourth largest area of historic homes in the state and is filled with overhanging oak trees, leisurely sidewalks and a diverse group of citizens and architecture.

The festival will feature an artists market with 50 artists from around the city, a children's play area, free musical performances throughout the day and food. The festival will take place at Barrett Park and parking at the College Park MARTA station is recommended.

Musical acts that will perform at the festival are as follows: The Woodward Academy Dance Ensemble, The Border Collies, Glen Johnson, Nightwind Jazz, Sue Wilkinson Band, Comptones, Penelope Williams, Francisco Vidal Band, The Tumbleweeds as well as a few special guests.

Historic College Park has been revitalized in recent years through an enhanced partnership between civic leaders, developers and citizens.

To get to College Park from the south side, take I-85 north to exit 73B - Virginia Avenue west. Turn right off the exit and drive one mile to the MARTA/Main Street overpass. After the overpass, take a right onto Howell Slade Road and drive for a quarter of a mile. Turn left onto Main Street and then take a left onto Rugby Avenue. Barrett Park is one mile ahead on the right.
