Hillandale beautification set A South Fulton County subdivision will get a "makeover" Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when District 7 Commissioner William "Bill" Edwards leads the Hillandale Beautification Project. Edwards, various county departments, South Fulton Clean and Beautiful, and volunteers from local businesses will help spruce up Hillandale, off Flat Shoals Road between Old National Highway and Interstate 85. Edwards initiated the effort in response to a request from homeowners to help improve the community. Activities kick off with a parade from 10 -11 a.m. through Hillandale by the Banneker High School marching band, with Edwards out front. Afterward, workers will complete landscape improvements begun in previous weeks. This includes mowing and edging lawns, trimming hedges, planting flowers at several intersections, cleaning grass growing in cracks along curbs, and pruning limbs that block a clear line of sight down the streets. Fire and police volunteers will also give special help to senior residents. Hillandale residents will compete in a noon yard contest to be judged by Edwards. Winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m. A number of corporate sponsors have donated supplies, food and funds to the project. For information call 404-730-8192.
