Information session set on racial profiling policies Fulton County District 7 Commissioner William "Bill" Edwards will host a public informational session to present the county's policy and procedures prohibiting racial profiling, Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at the South Fulton Service Center. The county marshal, police chief and a representative from the Sheriff's Department will discuss the policy, which is designed to prevent county law enforcement officers from stopping, detaining or searching individuals based solely on race, color, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, age, gender or sexual orientation. Action taken by the county to ensure racial profiling does not occur will be discussed. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions. A video providing an overview of the county's policy will also be shown. The marshal's, police and sheriff's departments developed racial profiling policy and procedures in response to a resolution sponsored by Vice Chairman Emma Darnell and adopted by the Board of Commissioners in fall 2000. The policy and procedures were also required for each department's accreditation. Law enforcement personnel receive periodic training on them. The South Fulton Service Center is at 5600 Stonewall Tell Road, College Park. Phone 404-730-5700.
