PTC Council resists changes to golf cart rules By JOHN
MUNFORD
A move to change the city's golf cart driving regulations so youngsters can drive while supervised by grandparents has been scuttled. The current ordinance allows children ages 12 through 14 to drive a cart while supervised by a parent or legal guardian. But Councilman Dan Tennant suggested that grandparents should be allowed to supervise the cart-driving youths also. But several council members said at last week's council meeting that they were hesitant to change the city's golf cart regulations. "If anything, I would like to tighten up the ordinance and make it tougher," said Councilwoman Annie McMenamin. McMenamin said she couldn't support the change unless it was studied intensely like the previous changes to the golf cart ordinances were several years ago. Councilwoman Carol Fritz agreed. Unless there are a large number of requests for such a change, McMenamin said she couldn't support it. McMenamin explained that the regulations help grandparents say no when youths ask to drive their golf carts. "It can be very difficult for grandparents to say no," McMenamin said. Tennant said he felt such decisions should be left up to the grandparents.
