Workers urged to drive safely during commute

Georgia drivers are reminded to follow the rules of the road this week, which has been named "Drive Safely Work Week in Georgia."

The campaign is aimed at making drivers safety conscious, particularly in their commute to and from work.

Employers are urged to educate their employees about safe and responsible driving through safety tips on sharing the road with large commercial vehicles, encouraging patient and courteous driving behavior and reducing drivers' use of drugs and alcohol.

"Traffic crashes in Georgia cost employers approximately $1.4 billion per year and the lost of nearly 56,000 years of productivity," said Yvonne L. McBride, the director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. "This campaign is part of an ongoing effort to make Georgia a safer place to work, live and raise a family.
